Accommodation in Istanbul

budget-hotels-in-IstanbulIstanbul is a beautiful city sitting at the crossroads of eastern and western civilization. This enchanting historical city with its stunning landscape and terrain is a mixture of the past combined with a modern infrastructure. Being a major tourist center, Istanbul has accommodation that caters to every type of budget, from hostels to 1 star hotels up to the best 5 star hotels that money can buy. Here at Budget Hotels Istanbul, we only review hostels, boutique hotels, 1 – 3 star hotels and some boutique hotels in Istanbul for those of us who want to see the best Istanbul has to offer, but not spend a fortune on hotel accommodation.

Before flying you should have your budget hotel in Istanbul arranged. The place is usually crowded and most decent hotels are fully booked early on in the tourist season. Decide first where you want to stay, what your budget is and how long you plan to stay. The five major hotel districts in Istanbul include: Sultanahmet, Aksaray-Laleli, Beyoğlu, the Bosphorus, Kadıköy on the Asian side of Istanbul, and the airport.

Sultanahmet is located in Old Istanbul and this is the one place you must see. The majority of historical sites and monuments are located here, but the hotels in this area also tend to be a little more varied in price. Check first. Beyoğlu is situated in the more modern part of Istanbul and has a fair number of luxury hotels but that means having to go everywhere by taxis because you are far from the center of Istanbul.

While taxis are not that expensive in Istanbul, the traffic congestion is horrendous and most likely you will end up seeing more of the traffic jams than of the historical sites. You will be sitting in a taxi for long periods of time if you need to take a taxi everywhere you go.

If you decide to stay at the Bosphorus hotels, you will have wonderful views of the Bosphorus, great sunsets but that will mean traveling by taxi to the historic center and that will add up time and money, being stuck in the Istanbul traffic in a taxi.

For those who want luxury accommodation in Istanbul; do not worry, almost every luxury international chain of hotels is well established in this enchanting city. If you are not too fussy about the interior décor or elegance of the bathroom, then there are a lot of smaller hotels. These small accommodations may not be as expensive as the luxury hotels, but they will provide the same service, more warmth and equally delicious Turkish cuisine either in their own restaurant or in local restaurants around your hotel.

For those who are on a tight budget, there are tons of small decent budget hotels Istanbul in and around the historic area of Sultanahmet. These budget hotels may not have the same décor as the Hilton, but they do provide comfortable, clean lodgings.

Irrespective of when you come to Istanbul, accommodation is not too difficult but it is best to be prepared before you get on the airplane. Sometimes the city is congested and you will have fewer hotel options especially between May and October, the high tourist season. When options are few, it usually means you end up paying more for your hotel, so remember to book your hotel early on in your vacation planning.
